A survey conducted by the Ministry of Education and other departments shows that China urgently needs workers skilled in operating digital control devices, using computer and programming software, automobile mechanics, and medical workers.

The fast-growing manufacturing industry in China demanded hundreds of thousands workers to operate and repair digital control devices, the survey revealed.

To cope with the development of the booming information industry, China each year needed approximately 100 million more people skilled in computers and programming software.

As the number of automobiles keeps rising, China is in need of nearly 300,000 more auto mechanics each year.

Moreover, the country will have to train as many as 150,000 nurses each year to raise the proportion of doctors to nurses to 1:1 by 2015, according to the survey.

The Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security and other departments have jointly launched a training project to tackle the situation.
