Chinese top legislator meets Thai princess

Wu Bangguo, chairman of China's National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, met Friday with Thai Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

Wu extended congratulations to Sirindhorn, who was awarded the honor of "friendship ambassador" Thursday by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.

As good neighbors, friends and partners, Wu said, China and Thailand maintained a healthy and stable momentum in developing relations.

The state visit by President Hu Jintao to Thailand last year gave new impetus to bilateral ties, Wu said.

With the spirit of "treating neighbors well and keeping them aspartners", Wu said, the Chinese leadership and the Thai side wouldfurther develop friendly and cooperative ties.

Wu valued the contributions made by the royal family in promoting relations with China.

He said the NPC would strive to strengthen cooperation with theThai national assembly, in a bid to spur comprehensive developmentof ties.

He also briefed Sirindhorn on China's economic and social situation and preparatory work on the upcoming second session of the 10th NPC.

Sirindhorn said she was very pleased to see great changes in China on her visit.

She hoped to learn more about the country and contribute more to cultivating friendship.
