The tickets for Shanghai stop, a debutante stage in the Formula One motor racing championship, have been put for sale and the high-priced ones are expected to be soon out of stock, a local newspaper said on Monday.

The tickets, available as of Friday, can be purchased at the box offices of the circuit, authorized distributors or through the official website of the race at www. icsh.sh.cn, China Sports Daily reported.

The prices of the tickets fall into nine categories ranging from 160 yuan (about US$19.5) for standing room up to 3,700 yuan (451 U.S. dollars) for a seat in the so-called "diamond area" in the standings.

"The highest-priced tickets turned out to be the most popular among the fans, "a distributor was quoted as saying. "We have received at least 400 reservations for the 3,700-yuan tickets but there are only about five thousand tickets for the best seats."

The F1 race will be held in China for the first time as it kicks off the three-day action in Shanghai, the biggest city of the country on September 26.
