US chip maker AMD on Tuesday introduced a new low-power mobile chip, AMD Athlon XP-M processor 2100+, for thin and light notebook computers.
Like existing AMD mobile processors, AMD said, the new low-power offering is designed to provide extended system battery lifeand the benefit of wireless compatibility with many of today's wireless solutions.
"With our low-power processors, PC manufacturers can pack heavyweight performance into lightweight notebooks," said Marty Seyer, vice president and general manager, Microprocessor Business Unit, AMD.
In the North American market, Fujitsu Computer Systems announced it will upgrade its LifeBook S2000 notebook with a full-featured, thin and light model based on the new low-power AMD Athlon XP-M processor 2100+.
AMD said computer manufacturers in China are planning to offer systems incorporating the new low-power Athlon XP-M processor 2100+during the second half of this year.
AMD said the new low-power Athlon XP-M processor 2100+ is available immediately worldwide for thin and light mobile PCs. Thechip is priced at 97 US dollars in 1,000-unit quantities.
