Legal assistance provided for prisoners in Beijing

A station to supply prisoners legal consultancy service was set up on Friday in Beijing, officials with the city's prison authority said.

A station to supply prisoners legal consultancy service was set up on Friday in Beijing, officials with the city's prison authority said.

The station will function as a non-profit organization to protect the legitimate rights of prisoners and it plans to send legal experts and lawyers to do the job, said officials sources.

It will serve over 7,000 prisoners under the management of Qinghe branch of the city's prison authority.

Through the service, prisoners have access to legal consultantsand professional advice, which is the first of its kind in Beijing,said Zhang Xiaokun, vice president and senior judge of People's Court of Xuanwu District, Beijing.

The station will also supervise prisons' daily management and contact prisoners' families to hear their response, said Zhang.
