Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Mar. 22 sent Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi a congratulatory message on his re-election as head of the government in the country's 11th general election on Sunday.

"On behalf of the Government of the People's Republic of China and on a personal note, I wish to offer you my warmest congratulations and best wishes," Wen said in his message.

"Since you succeeded as Prime Minister last year, Malaysia has enjoyed social stability and sustained economic growth, and continued to play a unique and important role in international and regional affairs," said the Chinese premier.

Wen expressed his firm belief that under Badawi's leadership and with the concerted efforts of people of all ethnic groups in the country, Malaysia will continue to score fresh achievements on its path towards becoming an advanced country.

Describing China and Malaysia as close and friendly neighbors, the Chinese premier said recent years have been the best period for bilateral relations in history.

He also noted that this year, designated the "Year of China-Malaysia Friendship," marks the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

"I look forward to welcoming you on your official visit to China in May and I am ready to work with you to advance China-Malaysia bilateral relations." Wen said.
