A draft law concerning online signatures and an amendment to the Regulations on Administration of Animal Drugs were adopted Wednesday at an executive meeting of the State Council.

The meeting, chaired by Premier Wen Jiabao, deemed it necessary to enact a special law regulating electronic signatures to guarantee the security of Internet trade and online handling of official affairs.

The draft law will be submitted to the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) for further deliberation, said the meeting.

It also considered the current Regulations on Administration of Animal Drugs should be improved to fit the development of modern animal husbandry and to meet the security requirements of livestock products.

Since being enacted in 1987, the regulations have played an active role in preventing and treating animal diseases, promoting livestock breeding and protecting the health of human beings. The amendment would help solve some new problems emerging from the administration of animal drugs, the meeting said.
