Bird flu-hit region resumes down product export to ROK

South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, where the first bird flu case in China was spotted, resumed exporting down products to the Republic of Korea recently.

South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, where the first bird flu case in China was spotted, resumed exporting down products to the Republic of Korea recently.

The first batch of products, valued at 190,000 US dollars, was white duck down from Huachang Down Co. in Guigang city.

Foreign markets have lifted the ban on imports of poultry and related products from Guangxi, said Su Zhilian, deputy director ofthe Guigang Quarantine Inspection Bureau.

Since the first bird-flu outbreak in the Chinese mainland was reported in Dingdang town, in Guangxi's Long'an county on Jan. 27,many countries suspended poultry imports from China.

The Guigang Quarantine Inspection Bureau sent staff to HuachangDown Company in March to ensure the whole process, including processing, packaging and transport is free from infection, Su said.
