Uganda president urges peaceful solution to political issues

Ugandan President Yoweri Musevenihas emphasized that all the political issues facing his country must be resolved peacefully through constitutional provisions and regular elections but not violence.

Ugandan President Yoweri Musevenihas emphasized that all the political issues facing his country must be resolved peacefully through constitutional provisions and regular elections but not violence.

At a fund-raising function in Apac district in northern Uganda,he praised local people for their support in the peace process to end the banditry of the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebels, according to Radio Uganda.

At the function held on Sunday he urged them to always unite incondemning the LRA banditry that has claimed many innocent lives, destroyed property and stalled economic growth in the country's northern part.

Museveni promised to strive to promote development in the region and reiterated that the LRA will be ended as the governmentforces have the will and equipment to bring to an end the LRA criminal activities.

He called on local people to diversify their income generating activities by engaging in commercial fish farming, export orientedfruit growing, upland rice growing, honey production, modern livestock farming and intensive cotton growing to improve their household income.
