Senior CPC official meets leaders of Netherlands

A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Monday held talks in the Hague with Frans Weisglas, the president of the Second Chamber of the Netherlands, and Gerrit Zalm, the deputy prime minister and minister of finance.

A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) held talks on March 29 in the Hague with Frans Weisglas, the president of the Second Chamber of the Netherlands, and Gerrit Zalm, the deputy prime minister and minister of finance.

The relations between China and the Netherlands have developed smoothly and the all-round bilateral cooperation has made steady progress in recent years, said Zhang Lichang, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee.

The new Chinese leadership attaches great importance to China's friendly relations with the Netherlands, and hopes to push the existing bilateral friendship to a new high, Zhang said.

Zhang also briefed Weisglas and Zalm about China's political and economic situation.

Weisglas said he is deeply impressed that China has made remarkable achievements in economic development, noting that the rapid growth of the Chinese economy offers a great opportunity for further China-Netherlands economic and trade cooperation on the basis of mutual benefit.

On his part, Zalm vowed that the Netherlands will continue to expand cooperation with China in all fields and push forward the development of the bilateral friendship.

Also on Monday, Zhang exchanged views with the Netherlands' Minister of Transport and Water Management, Karla Peijs, on the economic and trade cooperation between Tianjin and the Netherlands.
