Bolivian miner blows himself up at local congress

A Bolivian miner protesting the government for refusing to pay him pensions blew himself up with adynamite device on Tuesday at the headquarters of the Bolivian Congress, generating chaos and confusion.

A Bolivian miner protesting the government for refusing to pay him pensions blew himself up with adynamite device on Tuesday at the headquarters of the Bolivian Congress, generating chaos and confusion.

The Bolivian miner that blew himself up on Tuesday at the congress killed at least two people and wounded six others, local press reported.

The Chamber of Deputies President Oscar Arriend ordered the evacuation of the building and an immediate probe while postponingthe interpellation against the Presidential Ministers Jose Galindoand the Economic Development Minister Xavier Nogales.

The attack on the congress came as President Carlos Mesa tries to restore calmness in the nation after a national uprising stagedby peasants, workers and miners deposed former President Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada on October 2003.
