World potato congress in SW China results in fruitful trade,cooperation

Fifty-eight agreements, valued at69 million US dollars, were signed at the fifth World Potato Congress, which ended Tuesday in Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan province.

Fifty-eight agreements, valued at 69 million US dollars, were signed at the fifth World Potato Congress, which ended Tuesday in Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan province.

The agreements were nailed down for scientific and technological cooperation, investment, and processing production.

More than 1,200 representatives from 46 countries and regions attended the five-day activities, including five lectures and an exhibition on over 180 strains of potatoes from worldwide.

Lloyd Palmer, president and CEO of the World Potato Congress Incorporation, headquartered in Canada, termed the conference as the most fruitful and successful session of its kind, as it further enhanced cooperation between countries worldwide in potato breeding, production, processing and trade.

The congress was previously held in Canada, Britain, South Africa and Netherlands.
