China, Uruguay to boost economic, trade development

Uruguay and China are strivingfor faster development of their trade and economic ties, UruguayanDeputy Foreign Minister Guillermo Valles said Wednesday.

Uruguay and China are strivingfor faster development of their trade and economic ties, UruguayanDeputy Foreign Minister Guillermo Valles said Wednesday.

At the close of the 14th meeting of the Chinese-Uruguayan MixedEconomic Commission, Valles said the two countries reached accords on economic, trade and technological cooperation and studied the possibility of exporting soybeans and increasing salesof Uruguayan beef to China as well as accelerating the sanitary and quarantine procedure for Uruguayan products.

They also discussed protection for Uruguay to buy Chinese agricultural products.

Uruguay is interested in buying Chinese electronic systems which are planned to be installed in ports to control smuggling and drug dealing, Valles said.

After the meeting, Chinese Deputy Trade Minister Liao Xiaoqi said his government is satisfied with the development of economic and trade relations between China and Uruguay.

Liao said the two sides reached consensus on the future development of their economic and trade ties.

China has attached great importance to the relations with Uruguay with the quick solution of the quarantine problems that affected the imports of fruits and beef from Uruguay, he added.

Trade relations between China and Uruguay have been fast developing in the last years, with their trade amounting to more than 200 million US dollars in 2003.
