UK hard rock band Deep Purple and the father of Chinese rock, Cui Jian brought the first stage of their China tour to an end in Beijing on Wednesday night.

The British rockers made a deep impression on Chinese rockers, leaving some of them with purple bruises around their ear-drums, after Cui Jian opened the night as the supporting act.

The band brought the night to its climax as they belted out their hit "Smoke on the Water", and its well-known guitar riff.

The group will continue its tour in Shanghai and Guangzhou
