Nigeria reaffirms 'one China' policy

The Nigerian government always sticks to "one China" policy, Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar said Thursday when meeting the visiting delegation of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

The Nigerian government always sticks to "one China" policy, Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar said Thursday when meeting the visiting delegation of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Holding talks with the Chinese delegation headed by Ma Wenpu, deputy minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, Abubakar said, "Nigeria will not change its one China policy."

The vice president also expressed heart-felt thanks to China for economic aids since the civilian-elected Nigerian government took office five years ago.

Responding, Ma Wenpu thanked the Nigerian government for its support to China on many major international issues, especially Taiwan issue and human rights issue.

The Chinese delegation head spoke highly of substantial achievements made by the Nigerian government under the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP).

Ma also expressed hope to further strengthen the friendly relations between the ruling CPC and PDP as well between the two countries and two peoples.

The eight-member Chinese delegation arrived in Nigeria Wednesday and is scheduled to leave on Saturday for home.

Nigeria is the last of the delegation's three-leg African tour which also took them to Seychelles and Zambia.
