The threat of terrorist attacks on Poland is not just theoretical but quite real, Polish Deputy PrimeMinister and Interior Minister Jozef Oleksy said Thursday.

He said terrorists could take advantage of the controversy overPoland's dispatch of troops to Iraq.

Oleksy made the remarks in response to a report circulating over the Internet that said Poland won nothing but terror from itstroops contribution to the US-led occupation of Iraq.

The report, intercepted by the Norwegian military last December, several months ahead of Spain's general elections, analyzed the pre-election situation there and urged followers of Osama bin Laden to attack Spain.

Experts from the Norwegian Defense Research Establishment said the report they found suggested Spain as a possible terror target and that an attack was suggested around the national elections on March 14.

A series of train bombings hit Madrid on March 11, three days before the elections, killing 191 people and injuring about 1,800.

The report, published Thursday by a Polish newspaper, also assessed Poland's social and political situation and noted that Polish leaders also face many difficulties.

Oleksy said the purpose of the report was obvious and that Polish authorities will analyze it thoroughly.
