As from April 6 onwards, Hong Kong will deactivate Alert Level of the SARS emergency response system, which was activated on Dec 17, 2003, announced a spokesman of the Department of Health, Hong Kong SAR on April 1.

The decision was made on the basis of careful evaluation of SARS threat to Hong Kong and its neighboring regions.

Hong Kong activated the Alert Level of the SARS emergency response system in last December after a SARS case was confirmed. In Guangdong Province, the Public Health Department has stepped down the contingency measures on March 19 since there is no more SARS case confirmed since February 2004.
