Explosives found Friday on a Spanish high-speed railway line are the same as those used in the March 11 Madrid train bombings, Interior Minister Angel Acebes said on Saturday.

"The explosives are the same as those used on March 11," Acebessaid at a news conference. "It's the same type and the same brand."

Asked if a radical Moroccan group was suspected to be responsible for planting the bomb, he indicated that it was too early to determine who was behind it, saying that investigation was still underway.

Train service was halted Friday after Spanish police found an explosive device on a high-speed railway line between Madrid and Seville.

The 12-kilogram device, connected to a detonator with a cable, was similar to those used in the March 11 train bombings in Madrid,bomb-disposal experts said.

The bombings of four commuter trains on March 11, the deadliestterrorist attack in Spain's history, killed 191 people and injuredover 1,900.

Investigators said the bombings were carried out with Goma 2 Eco, a kind of dynamite made in Spain.

A Morocco-based terrorist cell with possible links to Osama binLaden's al-Qaida network and al-Qaida itself are suspected of being behind the bombings.

It was believed that the bombings were aimed at retaliating Spain's backing of the US-led war in Iraq.

The incident led Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar's conservativegovernment to a surprising defeat in the general elections held three days later.
