China business confidence keeps rising

China's business confidence index reached 138.8 points in the first quarter of 2004, up 6.3 percentage points year-on-year and 5.1 points over last quarter, a national business climate survey shows.

China's business confidence index reached 138.8 points in the first quarter of 2004, up 6.3 percentage points year-on-year and 5.1 points over last quarter, a national business climate survey shows.

Business people expressed confidence and optimism about the national economy, especially entrepreneurs from the industrial sectors of steel, petroleum, cement and real estate and from joint ventures and foreign-funded enterprises, according to a report released Tuesday by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

Meanwhile, China's business climate index reached 135.9 points during the period, up 4.7 percentage points year-on-year and on the same level as the fourth quarter of 2003, NBS said Monday.

The business climate index for fixed assets was 111.0 in the first quarter, a rise of 2.8 percentage points over the same period of last year, NBS survey shows.
