The International Commercial for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA) will hold its 17th conference in
Beijing
from May 16 to 18.
Wang Jinzhen, spokesman of the
China Council for the Promotion of International Trade
(CCPIT) said the ICCA, founded in 1969, held its conference once in four years and this is the first time for the meeting to be held in China. The theme of the conference is "new horizon in international commercial arbitration and beyond."
Wang, also associate chairman of the CCPIT, said some 500 delegates from the legal circle will attend the conference.
The conference brings opportunities for the legal circle in China to learn from international practices, said Wang.
He said the conference held in China also shows that the international community is interested in arbitration in China. "Especially after China's accession to the
World Trade Organization
,most of the foreign arbitration organizations show interests in entering the Chinese market."
Delegates will discuss topics such as arbitration and conciliation concerning China, arbitration of foreign investment disputes, and the role of arbitrators as settlement facilitators.
After the conference, a Chinese and Foreign Judges' Meeting will be held May 19 in Beijing and a symposium will be held in
Shanghai
the same day.
The conference will be hosted by China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, one of the most famous arbitration organizations in the world.
