Thailand, China agree to expand economic cooperation: FM

Thailand and China's southern cityof Kunming have clinched a deal on expanded economic and tourism cooperation, according to Thai Foreign Minister Surakiart Sathirathai.

Thailand and China's southern cityof Kunming have clinched a deal on expanded economic and tourism cooperation, according to Thai Foreign Minister Surakiart Sathirathai.

Surakiart was quoted Wednesday by the Thai News Agency as saying that the agreement was reached during a recent meeting of the Joint Thai-Kunming Task Force.

The Thai foreign minister jointly chaired the meeting, held Tuesday in Kunming, with secretary-general of the Chinese Communist Party in Yunnan Province.

"Under the agreement, Thailand and Kunming will boost cooperation concretely in three areas, including aviation and tourism promotion in the form of packaged tours between the Thai kingdom and the Chinese southern region, particularly from Thailand's northern provinces of Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Sukhothaiand Kunming and Da Li in Yunnan, construction of a center for wholesale and retail businesses between Thailand and the Chinese southern region, and issuance of a permit allowing tourists from Yunnan to enter the Thai kingdom without passports," Surakiart said.
