Top legislator meets Philippine guests

The Chinese new collective leadership attaches importance to the relations with the Philippines, and advocates the principle of treating neighbors in a friendly way and taking neighbors as partners, so as to promote regional peace, stability and prosperity.

Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, made the remarks in Beijing Wednesday in a meeting with Franklin Drilon, president of the Senate of the Philippine Parliament.

Wu said that Sino-Philippine relations have developed rapidly since the two countries forged diplomatic ties, and they have promoted mutual understanding and trust, and cautiously handled the concerns of one another.

Drilon, also president of the Philippine Liberal Party, said that the Philippines and China have increasingly mature political relations, and close economic cooperation, and the peoples of the two countries benefits from the rapid growth of the bilateral trade.

He expressed gratitude for the aid from China to the Philippines.

He said that the Philippines government and parties will take measures to promote peace and stability of the region, including peace and stability of the South China Sea. He reaffirmed that thePhilippines will always adhere to the "one-China" policy.
