Only 5 prc of young people in Russia healthy

Only 5 percent of Russian students and schoolchildren are absolutely healthy, according to the director of the Research Centre of Rehabilitation Medicine and Health Resortology, Alexander Razumov.

Only 5 percent of Russian students and schoolchildren are absolutely healthy, according to the director of the Research Centre of Rehabilitation Medicine and Health Resortology, Alexander Razumov.

The health of 65 percent of young people is bad and 30 percent medium, Razumov said at a press conference on Wednesday.

The Centre examined students and schoolchildren in the Ryazan, Belgorod, Vladimir and Perm regions. "These regions differ by their geographical and economic conditions. That's is why we believe that the data we obtain reflect the situation in the country as a whole," Razumov said on Wednesday.

At the same time, "In addition to purely economic reasons, there is yet another one: our society pays too little attention to the culture of health," while "many Western countries have long introduced a system of stimuli for citizens who care about their health," he said.

According to Razumov, the Academy of Medical Sciences has developed a special concept for the federal programme "Health to the Healthy". It has been approved by the World Health Organisation and sent to the Russian government for consideration.
