Clinton testifies before 9/11 panel in private session

Former US president Bill Clinton testified before an independent commission investigating the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in a private session Thursday, the panel said.

Former US president Bill Clinton testified before an independent commission investigating the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in a private session Thursday, the panel said.

"The commission found the former president forthcoming and responsive to its questions. We appreciate the excellent cooperation he and his associates have given to us," the commission said in a statement.

The commission interviewed Clinton for nearly four hours over the policy of his administration in dealing with the threat of terrorism. The panel said it would not release specific details ofthe meeting.

Clinton appeared before the panel shortly after a three-hour high-profile public testimony by US National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, during which she stoutly defended the Bush administration over its anti-terror policy.

President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney, under increasing pressure, have agreed to testify together before all 10panel members in a private meeting. Former vice president Al Goreis also set to meet the panel privately in the coming weeks.
