Asia's largest green paint plant up and running

Dalian Zebon Fluorocarbon Paint Industrialization Base, one of the first-batch projects approved by the country to rejuvenate the old industrial base of its Northeastern provinces went into production on April 8.

With an investment of 200 million yuan, the Asia's largest industrialization base will strive for an aggregate output of fluoro resin (FR) can reach 10, 000 tons with an income of 150 million yuan and 300 million yuan of pre-tax profit realized.

Zebon, which was the first firm in China to develop fluorocarbon coatings, has seen its production capacity quadruple over the past three years, resulting in a sharp fall in the price of imported fluorocarbon paint on the domestic market.

Zebon general manager Zhang Guozhong remarked that, with its patented technologies, Zebon's products have widely been used in a host of industries, such as electronics, construction, chemical engineering, autos and shipbuilding.

Regarded as the "king of paints" thanks to its high quality, strong adhesion and weather resistance, fluorocarbon paints now can be used in the same way as ordinary paint.

Zhang said the company's eco-friendly anionic water-based paint is now widely used in household decoration.

Zebon President Zhou Jianliang said the new plant has received much government support as it is one of 100 projects designed to revitalize Northeast China's traditional industries.

Zhou said Zebon's business network means it is equipped to compete with foreign counterparts both domestically and internationally.

Zebon's sales value is expected to hit 10 billion yuan (US$1.2 billion) in the next five years.

Both the company's research and development ability and its competitively priced products will be major factors in helping it realize this goal, said Zhou.

The State Development Bank loaned 130 million yuan (US$15.6 million) for the paint plant's construction, said Gao Jian, vice-president of the bank.

Gao said the bank has granted more than 3 billion yuan (US$360 million) to upgrade some of the private high-tech enterprises in Dalian, as part of the bank's efforts to help restructure the region's industries.
