A visiting Palestinian official said Thursday that Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat is in good health and the threat from Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon will not get its way.

Samir Ghoshe, an executive commissioner of the Palestine Liberation Organization, made the remarks to Xinhua after his talks with Syrian Prime Minister Farouk al-Shara. "Arafat is in good health. The longer the Israeli army siege him, the more energetic he is," he said, adding that Sharon is invading and killing the Palestinian people and imposing a long blockade over them. He added that the death threats are "the result of Sharon's inability and bankruptcy, because he hasn't fulfilled his promise to bring to the Israelis security, peace and economic prosperity." "The overall situation in Israel under the Sharon administration is the worst in its history. Although he has explored all the means, the persistence and determination of the Palestinian people will never be beaten down," he said. Ghoshe arrived here Thursday and presented al-Shara a letter from Arafat to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, which is about the delayed Arab summit.
