Iraq's interior minister resigns

Iraqi Interior Minister Nuri al-Badran said on Thursday that he had resigned because the US overseer Paul Bremer wanted a different religious mix in the cabinet.

Iraqi Interior Minister Nuri al-Badran said on Thursday that he had resigned because the US overseer Paul Bremer wanted a different religious mix in the cabinet.

Badran, a Shiite Muslim, said the American was not satisfied with his performance, adding that he had been told that the coalition cannot accept that both the defence minister and interior minister are Shiites, he told reporters.
