China cracks down on juveniles in Net bars
font size

The Chinese government has launched a crackdown on access to harmful information on the Internet, especially for young people. "Operation Sunshine" will increase supervision over all Internet bars in the country.

The campaign got off the ground on Sunday in Wuhan, provincial capital of Central China's Hubei. Surveillance of Internet bars will be stepped up. And, businesses without licences will be closed. Any bar giving entry to people under the age of 16 or allowing access to unhealthy information on the Internet will be severely penalized.

The crackdown follows a government move last month to ban any new Internet bars within 200 meters of schools.
