China and Vietnam should build up their borders with characteristics of peace, stability, friendship and development, said a senior Vietnamese official Wednesday, adding that much remains to be done by the two sides.
The two countries have cooperated in ensuring social order at the borders in recent years, creating favorable conditions for thedaily life of residents, Vietnamese Minister of Public Security LeHong Anh said at a meeting which opened in Hanoi Wednesday.
This is the first time that the two countries have held such a meeting to discuss measures to combat trafficking of women, children, drugs and weapons as well as other crimes via their borders.
Zhao Yongji, head of the Chinese delegation and Deputy Minister of Public Security of China, said under the principle of "long-term stability, future orientation, friendly neighborliness and comprehensive cooperation" set by the leaders of China and Vietnam,the ministries of Public Security of the two countries have conducted good exchanges and cooperation, making the relations develop unceasingly.
Specifically, China and Vietnam have signed a cooperation pact on combating crimes and protecting social and security orders, andan agreement on establishing cooperation mechanism. They have helped to standardize bilateral cooperation and exchanges, and laid an important foundation for closer friendship and cooperativeties.
Zhao stated that situations in the Sino-Vietnam border areas are stable, but some issues, which cannot be disregarded, still exist. The surging of some problems jeopardizes the interests of the two countries.
Public security agencies should beef up cooperation to effectively take practical measures, tighten control over border areas, standardize entry-exit procedures, fight activities affecting the borders such as trans-border trafficking of drugs, weapons, women and children, and ensure the social order in the borders, he said.
The Chinese delegation arrived in Vietnam on Tuesday for the one-day meeting.
