At 1 pm April 15 Beijing Aerospace Control Center finished the tracking and control of Shenzhou V orbital module. Wang Yongzhi, general designer of manned space-flight project, said to a reporter that Shenzhou V orbital module has operated on its orbit for 6 months circulating the earth 2.700 times. It has reached its designed lifespan and obtained plentiful and substantial application results and the design capability of various systems has been fully tested.
It was learned from related departments, that from Shenzhou II to Shenzhou V orbital module application system of Chinese spacecrafts has made a series of breakthroughs.
- Great progress has been made in the key technology of ground monitoring. In the period when spacecraft orbital module is operating on its orbit, the use of independently developed equipment makes it successful in carrying out ground observation, achieving significant results and establishing related technological systems and foundation.
- Space environment monitoring test accomplished important probing results. For the first time a large comprehensive probing into the space environment of manned space-flight orbit has been carried out, which provides a basis for choosing the orbit of spacecraft, life-span prediction and spacecraft design.
- Aerospace probing results exceeded expectation. Observation results of aerospace equipment have come into line with international standards. A great many findings of triggering instances such as solar flares and ray bursts were obtained. This was the first aerospace observation breakthrough that China made in this frontier field.
- The successful launch of Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODRIS) and its lasting normal operation makes China the second country after the United States that owns spacecraft Imaging Spectroradiometer. Many of the earth-target multi-source image data can provide service for agricultural output assessment, renewable resources dynamic survey, real time natural disaster monitoring, maritime environment and maritime primary productivity survey, etc. Successful geo-environment probing test filled China's blank in the field of geo-space probing.
- The space tests by using China's first multi-mode microwave remote sensor have produced many scientific probing data with application value, marking a major breakthrough in microwave remote sensing technology in China. In addition, during the operation of the orbital module, space scientific research and technical experiments such as precision orbit determination have been carried out.
