Visiting Chinese general Xu Caihou on Saturday met separately with Mexican secretaries of national defense and navy Ricardo Vega and Antonio Peyrot, speaking highly of the good momentum of bilateral military ties.
Xu, who is a member of the Central Military Commission and director of the General Political Department of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, said both China and Mexico had suffered the colonial aggression and rule in history and now are facing a common task of safeguarding world peace, defending national sovereignty, developing economy and improving the people's living standards.
To maintain and develop the friendly and cooperative ties between the two countries not only conforms to the fundamental interests of the two peoples, but are conducive to regional and global peace and development, said Xu, who added that he was delighted with the smooth development of the Sino-Mexican strategical partnership and the deepening of all-round cooperationbetween both nations.
The Chinese military official said the Sino-Mexican military ties are a major component of bilateral relations. Exchanges of visits by high-ranking military officials, personnel training and warship visits will help deepen understanding and friendship, as well as push forward the bilateral military ties.
Xu also briefed his hosts on China's domestic and military construction, expounded China's principled stance on the Taiwan issue, and commended the achievements scored by the Mexican people.
For his part, Mexican Secretary of National Defense Vega said the Mexican side values the development of the military ties between Mexico and China and wishes to enhance the military exchanges and cooperation in various fields.
Secretary of Navy Peyrot said the Chinese nation is a wise one which has successfully solved the issues of Hong Kong and Macao, and will surely solve the Taiwan issue.
Xu and his entourage arrived here on Thursday at the invitationof the Mexican Ministry of National Defense.
