font size

At least 28 fans were wounded and 15 others hospitalized in violent clashes between the supporters of the Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid, about an hour ahead of the match on Saturday.

Some 50 people were arrested in the stadium park, but the rest pelted stones at the police until they were dispersed.

The spokesman to Madrid Emergencies said that 15 people, among them a policeman, were taken to hospitals with mild injuries caused by "stone impacts."

The turmoil began when radical fans of the Real Madrid began toarrive, an hour and a half before the match, to the area near the Vicente Calderon stadium.

Police intervened when a large number of fans were trying to enter the stadium with photocopies of the entrance tickets.
