Palestinians mourn Hamas leader Rantisi

Hundreds of angry Palestinians took to the streets of Gaza City on Saturday evening to protest the Israeli assassination of new Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) leader Abdel Aziz Rantisi.

The angry Palestinians rushed to Shiffa Hospital to mourn Rantisi through loudspeakers and called for immediate revenge from Israel.

Rantisi was assassinated as well as two of his bodyguards, one of them is his son, in a car explosion, medical sources reported.

Medical sources at Shiffa Hospital in the city said that Rantisi was very critically wounded and died shortly of his wounds. Five bystanders were also wounded in the blast.

Witnesses said that Rantisi was in a local Subaru car with two of his bodyguards that drove in al-Jalla street, adding that suddenly a huge explosion was heard, where dozens of people rushed to the car.

The people as well as rescue teams and medics took two bodies from the car and Rantisi was in very critical conditions at that time, they added.

Hundreds of people gathered around the car and accused Israel immediately for assassinating Rantisi that was nominated as the new Hamas leader to replace the founder and spiritual leader of the movement Sheikh Ahmed Yassin who was also assassinated in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City on March 22.
