Canada condemns Israel's assassination of Hamas leader Rantisi
font size

Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Bill Graham on Sunday condemned Israel's assassination of Hamas leader Abdel Aziz Rantisi, saying it would only serve to escalate the tension in the Middle East.

Graham told Canadian Television " we call on Israel to use restraint in circumstances where, in fact, we are all working hardto try and get the ultimate goal of peace."

"When you see the cries for revenge here, where will this end? This is the question we have," he said.

Rantisi was killed late Saturday when an Israeli helicopter fired rockets into his car in Gaza City, less than a month after Hamas spiritual leader Sheik Ahmed Yassin was killed in a similar attack.
