Jiao Zhengzhong, deputy governor of northeast China's Jilin Province, has been appointed acting mayor of Jilin City.

The decision was adopted by the 12th session of the Standing Committee of the 13th Jilin Municipal Congress held on Sunday.

In accordance with the decision, Jiao has replaced Gang Zhanbiao, who resigned as mayor last Saturday over his responsibility, due to his negligence in leadership, for a major commercial building fire in the city on Feb. 15 this year, which killed 54 people and injured 70 others.
