The World Intellectual Property Organization, or WIPO, will strengthen cooperation with China in protecting intellectual property rights for the non-state owned sector, as well as in the training of relevant personnel.
WIPO Deputy Director General Shozo Uemura made the comments today on the sideline of a Beijing symposium focusing on IPR protection and economic development in China. The event is part of a week-long nationwide campaign to boost public awareness about IPR.
After praising China's progress in the field, the WIPO official pointed to the rising number of IPR disputes involving Chinese companies. He noted that a number of non-state owned enterprises lack experience in using international practices to avoid IPR disputes. In addition, Uemura said the WIPO is drawing up plans to provide technical assistance to China on IPR protection and training relevant people for the country.
