A total of 122,000 automobiles were sold in this Chinese national capital of Beijing in the first quarter of the year.

That represents a rise of 81.3 percent from the same period last year, much higher than the 11 percent growth rate recorded for the January-March period last year, said information from Beijing Municipal Administration for Commerce.

Retail sales of autos in the national capital rose by 16.8 percent to hit 7.03 billion yuan (about 847 million US dollars), accounting for 13.3 percent of the city's total retail sales of consumer commodities.
