China's star long distance runner Sun Yingjie will miss all the five stages of the Chinese Grand Prix fatigued by marathon competitions, a top Chinese athletics official said here on Thursday.
Sun, who finished a disappointing seventh place in the London Marathon last weekend, will have an altitude training in west China and not take part in the remaining three stages of the Chinese Grand Prix, said Feng Shuyong, head coach of the Chinese national athletics team.
"Sun will not compete in the Grand Prix," Feng said. "But she is sure to take part in the Chinese Olympic qualifying tournament in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province, in May."
Sun, who won the women's 10,000 meters bronze medal in last year's world championships in Paris, was China's lone medal hope in the long distance event.
She has already qualified for the Olympic Games in three events, the 5,000-, 10,000m and the women's marathon.
But Feng said she will have to run in Shijiazhuang because the Chinese Athletics Association will decide the Olympians according to the athletes' form.
"She will definitely run in the Olympic Games," Feng said. "ButI don't know how many events she will compete in."
