Up to 321 Vietnamese people have been removed from the list of candidates for People's Councils at three local levels for the 2004-2009 term after being found to have violated laws.

Among them, 10 are candidates for the provincial level, 33 for the district level and 278 for the communal level People's Councils, local newspaper Youth reported Friday.

Among unqualified candidates for the district level, some are holding important posts. In Buon Don district in central highlandsDac Lac province, for example, they include the chairman in officeof the People's Council, and the chairman and a vice chairman of the People's Committee.

Besides, 1,604 others have also been removed from the list, because they have not won a minimum of 50 percent of trust votes cast by voters in their residential areas.

Most of the losing candidates are those who pay poor attention to their residential areas, or inactively participate in socioeconomic movements, or show signs of corruption, or have their family members being wrongdoers.

Vietnamese citizens will vote for candidates for the People's Councils on Sunday.
