Venezuelan Scientific, Penal and Criminal Statistics Corps (CICPC) seized 1,874 kg of cocaine in two operations on Friday, a government spokesman said.

Commissar Miguel Ibarreto, chief of the CICPC anti-robbery division in Anzoategui, said they found 1,754 kg of cocaine in the first raid near Valle Guanape, some 300 km from Caracas. The drug was hidden in a pit in a village.

In the second operation, they netted 120 kg of cocaine in a small fishing boat on the beach of the Anzoategui state.

Preliminary investigations showed that the drugs belonged to the same group, which was trying to deliver them to a Caribbean island and then to Europe.

A total of five people were arrested in the raids, the chief said.
