Northern revolutionary base marks May 4th Movement
font size

More than 2,000 young workers, farmers, students, servicemen and civil servants in this capital city of north China's Hebei Province gathered at a downtown square on April 24 to mark the 85th anniversary of the May 4th Movement, a political and cultural movement against imperialism and feudalism in 1919.

Outstanding youth chosen from various social sectors passed on a torch with kindling materials collected from key revolutionary bases in the province. After the ceremony, the torch was sent to Xibaipo Memorial Hall for permanent storage.

Then, Youth League leaders and representatives planted 85 arborvitaes at Xibaipo, an old revolutionary base.

The aim of the torch-relay activity is to encourage young people to carry forward the glory of the May 4th Movement, work hard and make innovations to contribute to the objective of building a comparatively well-off standard of living.
