The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is "shocked and greatly concerned" over the invasion of Rwandan troops into its eastern territory.
According to a statement issued by the DRC government on Sunday, the entry has violated the declarations signed between the two countries in both New York and Pretoria, South Africa.
It will also destroy the mutual trust and cooperation between the DRC and Rwanda, which share borders of some 300 km along eastern DRC, said the statement.
While accusing the Rwandan troops of committing crimes of stealing, robbery, rape and slaughter in its territory, the DRC government urged United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan to establish an independent committee to investigate the event, the statement stressed.
Earlier this week, the UN military mission have stepped up patrols in DRC's eastern Kivu provinces following reports that theRwandan rebels launched attacks on Rwandan government troops in the territory of DRC in April.
But the UN soldiers were interfered by Rwandan troops during their mission, said UN envoys on Saturday.
Rwanda announced a total withdrawal from the DRC in October 2002, after the devastating five-year war in DRC that drew in troops from half a dozen African countries.
