Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong met foreign guests attending the 60th session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) Shanghai on Monday, calling to boost bilateral relations.
Zeng met respectively with President of Nauru Rene Harris, Laotian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign affairs Somsavat Lengsavad, Indonesian Foreign Minister Hasan Wirayuda, and Foreign Minister of Bhutan Khandu Wangchuk.
In a meeting with Harris, Zeng said the Chinese side appreciates Harris for his contribution to the growth of bilateral ties between the two countries, and that the China-Nauru ties have seen smooth development since the two countries established diplomatic relations.
The two countries also made sound cooperation in multilateral fields such as the United Nations, ESCAP, and forum of the Pacific island countries, Zeng acknowledged.
"China is willing to make concerted efforts with Nauru to push forward the friendly and cooperative ties to a new high," said Zeng. He also expressed his appreciation for Nauru's adherence to the One-China policy.
President Harris expressed the hope to further develop bilateral ties with China. He said Nauru supports the One-China policy and thinks it accords with the interests of South Pacific Island countries to develop a bilateral relationship with China.
When meeting with Laotian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Somsavat Lengsavad, Zeng said Laos has played an active and unique role in promoting ties between China and the ASEAN, and the Chinese side is willing to work with Laos to further boost the bilateral ties.
Somsavat said Laos hopes to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of international affairs. He also expressed his appreciation for China's support and assistance to Laos in the past.
In a meeting with Indonesian Foreign Minister Hasan Wirayuda, Zeng said China and Indonesia have increased mutual trust in politics. Zeng also expressed his appreciation to Indonesia for its adherence to the One-China policy.
Hasan said Indonesia is very interested in enhancing cooperation with China in the energy field.
In the meeting with Foreign Minister of Bhutan Khandu Wangchuk, Zeng said China would develop friendly ties with Bhutan in line with the peaceful coexistence of five principles of peaceful coexistence.
Wangchuk said Bhutan cherishes the friendship with China and appreciates China's achievements in economic development as well as China's constructive role in international affairs.
Zeng also met with Henry Tang, financial secretary of Hong KongSpecial Administrative Region (SAR), and Sou Tim Peng, acting director of the Economic Services of Macao SAR on Monday, saying that he was glad to see Hong Kong's economy has revived and Macao maintains rapid economic growth.
