Auto imports increase in first quarter

China imported 51,205 motor vehicles in the first quarter, up 8.2 percent over the corresponding period last year, statistics from the Ministry of Commerce show.

The figure included 35,554 sedans, up 33.9 percent year-on-year,2,700 trucks, up 40.4 percent, and 7,328 off-road vehicles, down 44.9 percent.

According to the statistics from Chinese customs, the nation imported 4.092 billion US dollars worth of motor vehicles and components from January to March this year, an increase of 33.7 percent from a year earlier.

This included 1.559 billion US dollars from complete vehicles, 850 million US dollars from key components, and 1.683 billion US dollars from parts and accessories.
