Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing met Tuesday in Shanghai respectively with foreign guests attending the ongoing 60th session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).
The foreign guests were Foreign Minister of Vanuatu Moana Carcasses Kalosil, Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs of Micronesia Sebastian Anefal, and Deputy Secretary-General of Pacific Islands Forum Iosefa Maiava.
In his meeting with Carcasses, Li said the bilateral ties between China and Vanuatu have seen sound development, and the frequent high-level exchanges in recent years increase the mutual understanding and trust between the two countries.
Li said to Anefal that the economies of China and Micronesia complement each other and the two countries share sound basis of cooperation. Micronesia enjoys rich fishery and tourism resources,and China owns vast market and applied technology suitable for island countries.
This year marks the 15th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Micronesia, and the two sides should implement the consensus reached by their heads of state, and maintain the good momentum of the development of bilateral ties, Li said.
Li told Carcasses and Anefal respectively in the two meetings that China is willing to make concerted efforts with Vanuatu and Micronesia to further promote the cooperation and exchanges in various fields.
In his meeting with Maiava, Li said China attaches great importance to the role of the forum in international and regional affairs, and shares similar stance with the forum on many issues.
China is willing to develop friendly and cooperative ties with the member countries of the forum on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, openness, common prosperity and coordination, Li said.
During the meetings, all the guests reiterated their adherence to the one-China policy, and expressed their hope to enhance relations with China. In addition, Maiava also expressed his hope that China will play a greater role in the Asian-Pacific affairs.
