At least 50 people killed in southern Thailand clashes

At least 50 attackers were killedon Wednesday morning when they launched attacks on police stationsand military checkpoints in southern Thailand, local TV reported.

A group of unidentified people early Wednesday launched simultaneous attacks against police stations or military checkpoints in several districts in the provinces of Pattani, Yalaand Songkra, all lying some 1,000 kilometers south of Bangkok and close to Malaysia to the south.

More than 50 attackers have been killed during the exchange of gun fires with police and soldiers, said the TV report.

It's the first time that so many people were killed in Thailand's Muslim south, which has been caught in constant violence in thepast four months.
