Famed as the "Oriental Hollywood," Hong Kong has just opened its own Walk of Fame. The city's new Avenue of Stars will give movie fans a chance to get closer to their idols. And it's set to become a major tourist pull in the city.

Xinhua photoThe Avenue of Stars is located along the beach promenade of the Tsim Sha Tsui District, also home to the Hong Kong Museum of Art, the Space Museum and the Hong Kong Cultural Center. Now, the city government has added one more reason to visit the area. The avenue is 440 meters long and boasts the handprints and signatures of famous Hong Kong movie stars. There are also 9 red pillars telling the century-long history of the region's movie industry.
Hong Kong's newly appointed financial secretary Henry Tang Ying-yen presided over the avenue's opening ceremony on Tuesday night. He expressed confidence that the spot would attract a lot of visitors and be a boost to tourism. He also said he hopes the avenue will mark a new beginning for the city's movie industry, with hopes it will regain the leading position it enjoyed last century. The avenue is expected to attract about 500,000 visitors each month.
