The Philippine election commission said that the voters' list contains names of dead people, a local newspaper reported Thursday.
Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chair Benjamin Abalos told Philippine Daily Inquirer that the voters' list is still unclean with dead people's names in it.
Abalos said that the number of voters might shrink by 700,000 to 42.8 million after the list is cleaned up.
However, the list could be cleaned up only after the elections,he said.
According to Philippine Daily Inquirer, Comelec estimates that there are 43,534,756 voters will troop to 215,953 clustered precincts throughout the country on May 10.
Some voters' names could not be found on the Certified Voters' List but appeared on the Voters Registration Records, the report said.
"We are only human beings. Errors could be committed in the migration of these records from one to another," Abalos said of it.
The report said that the Comelec started Sunday to seal the Book of Voters, meaning that the voters will no longer be excludedor included but clerical errors can still be amended in the list of voters.
In an effort to minimize confusion on election day, Abalos said that the Comelec planned to post the list of voters at polling places in Metro Manila on Saturday.
