Former US vice president Al Gore said Wednesday that he would give over 6 million US dollars left from his 2000 presidential campaign to Democratic candidates including presidential hopeful John Kerry in the November elections.

Gore, who narrowly lost the presidential race in 2000, said he would donate 4 million dollars to the Democratic National Committee, and 1 million dollars each to the party's Senate and House committees.

"I want to help John Kerry become president and I want to help Democrats retake control of the US Senate and House of Representatives," Gore said at his website, pledging to do anything he can to help Kerry fight against the "outrageous and misleading campaign" being waged by George W. Bush.

"The outcome of this election is extremely important for the future of our country and for all that America stands for," he said. He met Kerry privately Tuesday.

Gore would also give 250,000 dollars from his political accounts, held since his last unsuccessful White House bid, to theDemocratic Party in his home state, Tennessee, and 240,000 dollarsto the party in Florida, site of the disputed 2000 election recount.

The former vice president, who served during Bill Clinton's administration between 1993 and 2001, had previously endorsed former Vermont governor Howard Dean in the fight for the Democratic nomination.
