Indonesia's former president Abdurrahman Wahid, who is nearly blind, underwent medical examination at the Army's hospital here Wednesday as one of the entry requirements for contenders in the July 5 presidential elections.

Wahid, better known as Gus Dur, will spend at least six hours at the hospital until the examination is completed.

He arrived at the hospital minutes after another contender, pre-election favorite Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who also is scheduled for examination.

"Our minimum standard in the examination is to ensure (the candidates) will be physically able to do the jobs until the next five years," said Dr Farid Anfansa Moeloek, who heads the medical team assigned by the national commission for general elections (KPU) to examine presidential contenders.

Medical test is one of 20 entry requirements for presidential race set by the commission.

Wahid, nominated by the National Awakening Party (PKB), has repeatedly complained against the medical requirement, which includes an eye test, saying it could be a stumbling block for himto reassume presidency and that it represents human rights abuse.

PKB has officially requested a judicial review from the SupremeCourt over KPU's ruling but the court has not delivered a verdict so far.

Earlier on Wednesday, the medical team has completed test of Wiranto, aspirant from former ruling party Golkar.
